Creative background of stainless steel outdoor artwork:
Since the mid-1990s, Kapoor has begun to use stainless steel to create dramatic mirror reflections in the form of bumps and bulges. Perhaps the most famous work he has created with this material is the outdoor artwork Cloud Gate (Cloud Gate, 2006), which was placed in Chicago’s Millennium Park. This sculpture is also affectionately called “Beans”. This popular outdoor artwork sculpture is just one of his many public commissions. Other works include Sky Mirror, which has been copied many times and is now located in Kensington Gardens in London and Rockefeller Center in New York. His other famous outdoor artwork is a large twisted metal structure, ArcelorMittal Orbit (2012), currently in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, London display.
The impression of famous outdoor artwork:
Kapoor’s most well-known works are large outdoor artwork sculptures, which often appear as simple curves combined with cavities and depressions. Kapoor uses simple shapes and huge dimensions to create an atmosphere that makes people concentrating. The dark area created by the recess in the work evokes the mysterious feel of the audience. The tactile surface is like an invitation, and the charm created by reflection is endless. His works in Chicago Millennium Park and Cloud Gate reflect these characteristics very well. The outdoor artwork “Cloud Gate” located in Chicago Century Park is a representative work of Kapoor. Chicagoans call it a “bean” because it looks like a bean. This bean is made of highly polished and welded stainless steel plates. The sculpture is 33 feet tall and weighs 110 tons. The outdoor artwork “Bean” has a soft and simple posture, which evokes the inner gentle emotions after seeing it. Chicago’s urban landscape is projected onto this bean. The curvature, bumps, and image reflections of the bean lead to other feelings. One level. The softness of the beans produced a kind of supernatural power after being eclectic with the surrounding sceneries.
