Couple under umbrella Stainless Steel Gravitational Origin Wire Mesh Sculptures

The umbrella and the figures each use a mesh design in a different form. How was it made?

Making the umbrella:

Wire mesh shaping:

The circular mesh is first cut into panels and then carefully shaped into the iconic umbrella shape. The panels are bent and molded using precise techniques to form the curved, circular umbrella canopy. The challenge was to maintain the structural integrity of the mesh while making it resemble the natural flow and drape of the umbrella.

Frame structure:

Once the canopy shape is achieved, the mesh is supported by a stainless steel frame to provide the necessary strength and stability. The frame is carefully welded to ensure that the mesh is taut and properly supported. The umbrella’s ribs and handle are also made using stainless steel rods, with each piece precisely welded in place.

Making the figures:

Wire mesh carving:

The figures of the couple are carved using horizontal mesh, first cutting the mesh into strips or sections that can be molded into the shape of the body. The strips are shaped and layered to form the outlines of the figure, paying special attention to the contours of the body, such as the arms, legs, and posture.

Structural support:

To increase the durability of the figure, an internal frame of stainless steel rods is used. These rods are carefully placed within the grid and welded to ensure stability and correct alignment of the Stainless Steel Gravitational Origin figure. The horizontal grid provides a sense of solidity while still allowing some flexibility in the way the figure bends and moves.
